Following the Thursday night debate between mayoral candidates David Pink and Leon Abbott, Pink on the Pier concluded with a near-fatal performance from Vaarallinen. While nothing is more rock ‘n roll than pyro, it seems that attendees got more than they’d hoped for out of the event when two overzealous concert-goers set off fireworks aimed at the stage and crowd.
Two NPPD officers were in attendance and detained the suspects briefly, however, a struggle ensued soon afterward the prompted candidate David Pink to pull out a handgun. It was the NPPD that would fire a shot though, one of the unidentified suspects on the receiving end of the bullet.
While the suspect is reportedly in good condition, and while there are also no other fatalities or casualties reported at this time, the citizens of North Providence are waking up this morning with a lot of questions and concerns. Many are contemplating a motive for the fireworks being set off, and also questioning the timeliness of Leon Abbott’s absence from the concert. There are also concerns that this is another act of violence directed toward candidate David Pink, following an attack that took place on Wednesday night.
As we collectively process what occurred, and as the NPPD investigates, we’ll be updating readers as information surfaces about the events of Thursday night.
